South Bend Riley/Jackson High Schools, 1974 – 78
Shawn McCluskey swam for both South Bend Riley High School and South Bend Jackson High School. Her freshman year, at the inaugural IHSAA girl’s state swimming and diving championship, she won both the 50 and 100-yard backstroke for South Bend Jackson. Her sophomore year she moved to South Bend Riley, and established a new state record in the 50-yard backstroke in the preliminaries. She went on to win the 100-yard backstroke in her junior and senior years, giving her a total of four individual titles.
She continued her swimming career at Boston University, becoming the school’s first swimming All-American. She was inducted into the BU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989.
