2017 Hall of Fame Classic

Date: Friday, December 1st and Saturday, December 2nd, 2017

Where: Franklin Community High School

Special Note:   Franklin Community High School has gone to significant lengths to ensure that their timing system and technology will allow the meet to be run at the most efficient level to ensure the meet runs on schedule.

The teams invited to the Indiana High School Hall of Fame Classic are based on their combined girls and boys performances in the previous season at the IHSAA State Championships.  We also try to get a representation of all regions in the state of Indiana.

Participating Teams: Avon (Hoosier Crossroads), Castle (Southern Indiana), Chesterton (Duneland), Fishers (Hoosier Crossroads), Franklin Community (Mid State), Greenfield Central (Hoosier Heritage), Jeffersonville (Hoosier Hills), Penn (Northern Indiana), Plainfield (Mid State), and Zionsville (Hoosier Crossroads).

Rules: The competition will be conducted under current IHSAA Swimming and Diving rules.  USA Swimming observers will be present for all preliminary and final swimming events.  We will use “Flyover” starts in the Prelims.

Facility: The Franklin Community High School facility will be configured with two 8 lane 25-yard competition pools.  Both pools are equipped with non-turbulent lane dividers and a Daktronics electronic timing system.  Seating is available for more than 800 spectators.

During the swimming preliminary sessions, men’s events will be swum in the south pool (diving well end) and the women’s events will swim in the north pool.  The space between the bulkheads will be available for warm-up and warm-down.

  • Swimming Preliminaries: $5.00
  • Swimming/Diving Finals: $5.00


Entry Information:

Fee:   The fee is $250 per school ($125 boys’ team, $125 girls’ team) which includes meal expenses for participating athletes and coaches, as well as expenses associated with any meet (meals for 450, officials, equipment, lifeguards, custodians, awards, etc..).  The check should be made out to Franklin Community High School.  Please submit your entry fees by Tuesday, November 21st, Noon.  Please note:  These fees do NOT cover the total cost of putting on this meet, but simply make it possible for this prestigious event to be held.

Non-Participating Athletes:

Any team members attending the meet, but not actually participating will need to pay the $5 admission to each session they attend and sit in the spectator bleacher area.  Non- participating team members may purchase a meal for $6.50 and are invited to hear the Hall of Fame speaker between sessions.   Participating team members include coaches and up to 3 managers per team.  As deck space is limited at this meet we ask your help as a coach to please have only participating members on the deck.

  • IHSAA Dive Sheets – entries – Wednesday, November 29th at Noon

Format:   This meet will run using the current version of Hy-tek Meet Manager 5.0.  Entries must be sent by email in Hy-tek using the Meet Events file provided by the Meet Technical Director. PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR DIVERS NAMES ON THE ENTRY FILE.

All entries must be submitted using short course yards times.  Relays may be entered either by using an actual high school relay time or a composite time of the individual swimmers. A hard copy of the meet entries is requested, in either a Microsoft Word or PDF format.  Please, include a list of the coaches and managers who will be attending the meet.

The entry e-mail must include name, office phone number, and the cell phone numbers of the person responsible for the swimming entry.

Limitations: Each school will be allowed up to 3 entries per individual event and 2 entries per relay event.  Each participant will be allowed to enter up to 5 events, only 3 of which may be individual events.


Session A:  Diving Prelims Friday:

All divers will perform 8 dives on Friday night.

  • Doors Open: 4:00pm
  • Diving Warm-Ups: 4:30pm
  • Diving Prelims: 6:00pm – 9:00pm

** The pool will be available to swimmers for practice during the diving competition. **

Session B: Swimming Prelims Saturday Morning (Two Pools):

  • Doors Open: 7:30AM
  • General Warm-Ups (3 lanes each): 8:00 – 8:30AM
  • Scratch Meeting – coach or representative REQUIRED 9:00AM
  • Group A: 8:30-9:00AM
  • Group B: 9:00-9:30AM
  • Sprints/Starts/Pace: 9:30-9:45AM
    • Lanes 2-3-4-6-7 Sprint Lanes, One-Way Only, Racing Starts Permitted
    • Lanes 1 and 8 Pace Lanes
    • Lane 5 General Warm Up (No Diving)
  • Swimming Preliminaries: 10:00am-11:50pm


Hall of Fame Luncheon:

Immediately following session B.  12:00 – 1:00pm

There will be a luncheon provided for all participating athletes. The luncheon catered by South of Chicago Pizza and Italian Beef http://www.nobspizza.com/locations/

Speakers Presentation to athletes and coaches:     1:00 – 1:20pm

Joe Sheehy  of the Hall of Fame’s inaugural class of 2007, will be our speaker.  Joe swam for Columbus High School, and was undefeated in the 100 Butterfly event for four straight years , from 1962-63 until 1965-66.  He was the first man to accomplish this feat in IHSAA swimming history.  He will make a presentation to the athletes.  The purpose is to promote education and fellowship.   Athletes and coaches are encouraged to sit with the athletes and coaches from other schools.


All relays will swim in the Finals.  The 8 fastest seeded times in the 1000 free and the 400 IM will also swim in the Final session.  In the other swimming events, all entries will compete in the prelims and the top 8 finishers will compete in the Finals.  Divers will all do 8 rounds with NO cuts ON Friday evening.  The top 8 highest scoring divers, in each gender, will compete in the Finals.

Session C:  Swimming and Diving Finals (One Pool):

  • Doors Open: 2:30 pm
  • Relay sheets and Finals Scratches:  IF NEEDED      2:00 pm
  • General Warm ups: all teams with both pools open excluding diving area.     2:00 – 2:30 pm Sprints/Starts/Pace           2:30 – 2:45pm
  • Diving Warm-ups: 2:00 until the end of the Men’s 200 Backstroke Final


Finals Session:     Start at 3:00pm

Estimated finish of the meet      7:00 pm

  • Scoring: 16 places as follows:
  • Individuals: 20-17-16-15-14-13-12-11      9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
  • Relays: 40-34-32-30-28-26-24-22     18-14-12-10-8-6-4-2


The top 8 places will be determined in the final session.  Those not making the finals will still be able to score for their teams based on how they do in the prelims in sessions A/B.   Scoring for places 9-16 shall be determined in the Prelim sessions, except for the 1000 Free, 400 IM and the relays.  Relays will be run and scored as Timed Final Events with all relays to be run (will compete) during the Finals Session”


Awards:   Trophies will be given to the winning team and the runner-up in both the boys’ and girls’ competitions.  A combined team championship trophy and runner-up trophy will be awarded to the teams with the highest combined scores.
