Sally (Sanquinette) Abarta

Bloomington North High School, 1974 – 75


Sally Sanguinette Abarta was a diver for Bloomington North High School. She won the second-ever title in diving at the 1975 girls swimming and diving state championships. Prior to moving to Indiana, Sally had to compete in the boys’ championship in Missouri as there was no girls’ championship offered until 1976. She placed 3rd in her junior year.  Sally went on to Indiana University where she earned three letters from 1977-79. She continues to be active in sports as a trail runner and downhill skier. She has also owned a sporting goods dealership and was a club fitness instructor. Sally is retired and lives in Truckee, California with her husband, Tony Chavarria. She has two sons David and Mike and a daughter Jamie.
