Roberta “Berta” (Fotschky) Rogers

Hammond Bishop Noll, 1977 – 78


Roberta swam for Hammond Bishop Noll from 1977-78 and was a two-time individual state champion. Berta’s sophomore year, she won the 200-yard individual medley in a state record time, won the 500-yard freestyle, breaking the state record in the preliminaries. She also swam the butterfly leg on the winning 200-yard Medley Relay that set a new state standard. As a junior, Berta was on the podium three more times with a third place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, a fourth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle and swam on the runner-up 200-yard Medley Relay team. Berta’s family moved to New Zealand her senior year where she continued training with the New Zealand National Team in Wellington. She came back state-side and graduated from high school in Georgia and then went on to study at the Medical College of Georgia. She completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing as a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. She also completed a Master’s degree in Health Service Administration from the University of St. Francis. Berta and her husband Bruce Rogers now live in Fort Myers, Florida where Berta is the Director of Nursing at The Center for Specialized Surgery. Berta has two step daughters, and two grandchildren.
