Manuel Guzman

Bloomington South High School, 1985 – 89


Guzman__ManualManuel Guzman, a native of Puerto Rico, was a five-time state champion for Bloomington South High School.  His first title came in his junior year when he won the 100-yard breaststroke in meet record time.  As a senior, he won the 100-yard freestyle in state record time and won the 200-yard individual medley setting a National Record.   He teamed up with fellow Panthers to win titles in the 200-yard medley relay in 1988 and 1989.  The 1989 team of Jason Allen, Ed Silva, Steve Ware and Guzman set a national record of 1:33.82.  Guzman held seven school records upon graduation from Bloomington South.  Guzman competed in the 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics for Puerto Rico. His best result was a 12th place in the Men’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.
