John Vogel

Columbus High School, 1956 – 58


John was a state champion diver for Columbus High School during the late 1950’s. John was runner-up on the springboard his sophomore year. He was again runner-up at the 1957 state championships, helping Columbus to the team runner-up finish. His senior year he won the 1-meter springboard title and Columbus again finished as team runners-up. John went on to Purdue University where he was a three-time All-American in Diving and co-captain of the 1962 men’s swimming & diving team. He was awarded the Big Ten Medal of Honor as a senior, which is awarded to the graduating senior who demonstrates academic and athletic excellence throughout their career. He was an alternative to the 1964 Olympic Team for platform diving. John is now an engineering consultant and resides in Florida with his wife Joan and has a daughter, Kira.
