David Buchanan

David_BuchananDavid Buchanan swam for South Bend Riley High School from 1958-1962. He earned his first state title as a junior in 1961, winning the 100-yard backstroke. He repeated as a state champion in the event in 1961 setting a state record. As a senior, he attained top honors in the 100-yard butterfly, setting a state record that was the second fastest time for that event in the United States. David contributed to a South Bend Riley team state championship in 1962. David graduated and earned a full swimming scholarship to the University of Wisconsin. After graduation from the University of Wisconsin, he went on to teach high school and middle school English and Latin in Hawaii and California. David is currently a corporate policy writer and trademark paralegal at Del Monte Corporation in San Francisco. David’s talents extend beyond the pool; he was a professional musician at age 14 and played flute and piccolo with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra.
