Sandy Searcy

2019 Contributor Award Winner


Sandy Searcy is a graduate of Elkhart Central High School where she was a member of the swimming and diving team. She went on to Indiana University, Bloomington where she was a member of the swimming and diving team and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Science and Master’s Degree in Sport Administration. Searcy has been involved in swimming at the high school level in many different capacities. She has been a Head and Assistant Coach at Bloomington North and Bloomington South High Schools. While at Bloomington North she won the Sectional Coach of the Year Award numerous times and was twice named Coach of the Year by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association. She also served as the Girls Athletic Director at Bloomington North from 1988-1999. She has been a swim coach at Bloomington Swim Club and at Indiana University and Clarion University swim camps. In 1999, Searcy joined the IHSAA staff as an Assistant Commissioner. During her 16 year stint, she oversaw the administration of the swimming and diving championships, among other duties. She was instrumental in starting the IHSAA Regional Diving Competition. She has served as Secretary of the Indiana High School Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame and was central to developing the banquet to honor inductees. She has received many awards for her contributions to sports in the state of Indiana. Among them are the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association Marion Archer and Phyllis Tubbs Services Awards, the Marion County Coaches for Girls Sports Jan Brown Award. She has remained active at her alma mater, earning the I Association President’s Award and Leanne Grotke Award as well as the Indiana University School of Public Health Anita Aldrich Distinguished Alumni Award. Searcy is currently the Director of Sports at the National Federation of State High School Associations in Indianapolis. She oversees the sports of softball, water polo, and swimming and diving. She is also a member of the USA Diving Board of Directors and the USA Swimming Rules and Regulations Committee. Sandy lives in Bloomington with her husband Dean Voyles. Dean and Sandy enjoy raising west highland terriers.
