Columbus North High School, 1999 – 2001
Ryan Wochomurka swam for Columbus North High School from 1999-2001. As a junior, Wochomurka claimed the state title in the 200-yard freestyle, while also leading off the winning 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relays. He helped lead the Bulldogs to their third consecutive team state title. As a senior, Wochomurka won both of his individual events, touching first in the 200-yard individual medley and setting a state record in the 100-yard freestyle. He also swam on the runner-up 400-yard freestyle relay. Wochomurka continued his swimming career at Auburn University where he was part of three national championship teams. Wochomurka was a 21-time All-American for the Tigers including two relay titles at the 2004 NCAA championships. On the international stage, Wochomurka represented the United States at the 2003 FINA World Championships, where he was a silver medalist in the 4×100 free relay. He was also a 2004 Olympic Trials finalist and a two-time FINA World Cup Silver Medalist. Wochomurka has made a career out of swimming. He was an associate coach at the University of Louisville from 2007-15, helping the Cardinals win seven conference titles and three individual NCAA titles. He then went on to be the Head Coach at the University of Houston where he won five consecutive conference team titles and was a five-time American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. In 2021 he went back to his alma mater as head coach of the Auburn Tigers men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. He lives in Auburn with his wife Leigh and children Hayes and Hallie.
