The Indiana High School Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame was established to honor those athletes, coaches and special contributors who have contributed to high school swimming and diving in the state of Indiana.
Maggie Bird
Yorktown High School, 2002 – 06
Maggie’s sophomore year included three runner-up finishes, in the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relays, as well as a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle. The following year she won her first of two individual titles in the 200-yard freestyle. She again finished as runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle. As a senior, she won both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. She also led Yorktown to a team runner-up finish at the championships and a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Maggie went on to swim at Auburn University where she was a member of the 2007 NCAA championship team and captain her senior year. She earned All-American honors by finaling at the NCAA championships eight times with her highest finish as NCAA runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle at the 2008 championships. Maggie and her Auburn teammates also set an American, US Open and NCAA Record in the 800-yard freestyle relay at the 2009 Southeastern Conference Championships. Maggie still holds the top time at Auburn in the 500-yard freestyle and the 800-yard freestyle relay. Maggie also earned a spot on the US National Team for the 2008 Short Course World Championships and was a finalist at the 2008 US Olympic Swimming Trials in the 400-meter freestyle. Her parents are Henry and Debbie Bird and she has two brothers, Patrick and Griffin. Maggie now resides in Chicago and is a Manager in the Risk Advisory Services division of EY.
