John “Reid” Lichtenfels

South Bend Adams High School, 1965 – 66


Reid Lichtenfels was a diver for John Adams High School in South Bend. As a junior, Lichtenfels placed fourth at the state championships helping Adams to a third-place team finish. Lichtenfels captured gold in diving his senior year, establishing a new state record with 396.4 points. Lichtenfels initially enrolled at the University of Michigan to dive with legendary coach Dick Kimball. He then transferred back to South Bend to attend the University of Notre Dame where he also was a diver and graduated with a degree in English Literature. He then went to law school at the University of Denver. He founded Lichtenfels, Pansing, & Miller, P.C., a small law firm in Cherry Creek, CO specializing in real estate transactions, construction law, telecommunications law, business transactions, and real estate-related litigation. He was active in sports in the Denver community serving as a board member for Club Denver Soccer, Boys & Girls Club Pro-Am Golf Tournament, and Cherry Creek Country Club. He also served as a mentor and tutor for disadvantaged children through the Denver Bar Association. Lichtenfels passed away in 2004 and is survived by his wife, Hannelore (Hanne) and son Kristian and five grandchildren. His son Evan passed away in 2013.
