Anderson High School Coach, 1973 – 98
Jim Alexander coached at Anderson High School from 1973 to 1976, Madison Consolidated High School from 1977 to 1979, and again at Anderson High School from 1979 to 1998. During Jim’s career, his teams won the boys state championship titles in 1987-88, and 1988-89, and were state runner-up four times. He coached nine individual and 10 relay state champions, as well as 30 high school All-Americans. Jim’s teams won 16 Sectional Titles, 11 North Central Conference Titles, 10 individual state records and included one IHSAA Mental Attitude award winner. In 1988, Anderson High School was named the NISCA National Champion in Class 4, and Jim was named Coach of the Year. He received the Ball State University Alumni Coach of the Year honors in 1988 and 1989, plus was the North Central Conference Coach of Year 10 times, and Sectional Coach of the Year 10 times. He retired from coaching in 2002 and lives with his wife Ginger.
