The Indiana High School Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame was established to honor those athletes, coaches and special contributors who have contributed to high school swimming and diving in the state of Indiana.
Greg Achors
Kokomo Haworth High School, 1980 – 82
During his career at Haworth he won individual titles as well as relay and team championships. As a sophomore, he was runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley at the 1980 state championships. His junior year, he and his Haworth teammates set a state record en route to winning the 200-yard medley relay title. He was runner-up for a second year in the 200-yard individual medley and he also swam on the runner-up 400-yard freestyle relay as the team finished as runners up at the 1981 champion-ship. Achors senior year was all gold as he led his Haworth team to their one and only championship. He won two individual titles, the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard breaststroke, setting a state record in the breast-stroke. He also swam the breaststroke leg on the state record setting 200-yard medley relay. Achors went on to swim at the University of Tennessee where he helped the Volunteers to a top 10 finish at 1983 NCAA championships. Achors then had a long career in the United States Navy as a pilot, retiring as Commander. He served in both Desert Storm and Kosovo. He is currently a Captain for Federal Express. He now resides in Fleming Island, Florida and is married to Kristi and has two sons, Kyle and Konner.
