Elkhart High School, 1970 – 72
David is the only State Swimming and Diving Champion, male or female, and will remain the only one for Elkhart High School. At the 1970 championships, his sophomore year, David was runner-up in the 400-yard freestyle. His junior year, he won his first championship in the 50-yard freestyle. He was again runner-up in the 400-yard freestyle. At the 1972 championships, David won the 100-yard freestyle and was runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle. He was honored with the Herman F Keller Mental Attitude Award. After high school, David attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a member of the swimming & diving team. Unfortunately, hi collegiate swimming career was cut short by a traumatic shoulder injury. He then transferred and graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington with a degree in telecommunications. He has spent most of his career as a public relations and communications professional in St. Louis. He now resides in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with his wife, Jan. They have two children, Ashley and Kean.
