Ben Davis High School, 1979 – 83
Barbara “Buffy” Horlander swam for Ben Davis High School. She is a four-time individual state champion winning the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke events in 1979 and 1980. She set state records in both events and was the first female to swim under 55 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle with an amazing 52.49 in 1979 and 52.04 in 1980. She also helped her team to two state championships and was a member of two state championship relays. Buffy attended the University of Southern California, graduating with a Fine Arts degree. She currently lives in Austin, Texas, and is employed as an artist and designer. She lives with her Siamese cat, Coco, and her Jack Russell terrier, Daisy.
