Hammond High School, 1948 – 52
Jim Etter swam for Hammond High School, winning the 50-yard freestyle in 1951, and the 100-yard freestyle in 1951 and 1952. He also helped his teams to the state titles in both 1951 and 1952. He went on to swim at Indiana University earning varsity letters in 1954 and 1955. Jim has been an ordained Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church for the past 25 years, and is presently working as a Chaplin at St. Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point, Indiana. Jim is married to Von and has 7 children, 20 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Jim was the recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash honor.
