Korsgaard__BobThe 1952-53 school year was Dr. Korsgaard’s first season coaching.  At that time, there were only 12 teams, none of which were in east central Indiana.  His team traveled the length of the state, from New Albany to South Bend to Ohio in order to complete a schedule.  Coach Korsgaard’s efforts helped to produce 11 individual state champions over the course of his career and his boys teams were runner-up at the state championships twice, 1956 and 1960. In addition to his many honors, Dr. Korsgaard earned special recognition from the IHSSCA in 1975 for his contribution to the sport, and also earned the Special Olympics Award for Service.  In 1992, he received the Indiana Governors Council on Physical Fitness and Sports award.  Dr. Korsgaard continued his quest for physical fitness and participated in the Indiana Senior Games many times, winning multiple medals and certificates for participation.
