Mike Kearney

Bloomington High School, 1969 – 73


Kearney__MikeMike Kearney participated in high school swimming from 1969-73. Mike won six individual titles, one relay title and three team championships during his career.  He established state meet records in his events, as he became a state champion in the 100-yard butterfly in 1971 and 1973, the 200-yard individual medley in 1971, the 200-yard freestyle in 1972, and the 400-yard freestyle in 1972 and 1973.  Mike continued his swimming career at the University of Wisconsin where he was a Big Ten Conference finalist. In 1974, Mike was ranked in the top 25 in the world in the 200-meter butterfly.  Mike is a sales representative for Arch Aluminum and Glass. He lives with his wife Annie and their four children. Mike can say that his 400-yard freestyle record will never be broken, as the event was changed to the 500-yard freestyle after 1973.  In his spare time, Mike raises and breeds American Quarter Horses.
