Christine (Simmons) Simatacolos

Carmel High School, 1985 – 89

Christine was a member of three state championship teams, three 200 medley relay championship teams, and won the 200 IM at the 1988 state championships. She comes from a long line of swimming stock – her brother Greg (CHS 1994) and sister Katie (CHS 2000) also swam for Carmel High School and each won 4 state championships.  Christine was a 1989 US Olympic Festival Team captain.  In college, she was a 4-year letter winner in swimming (1989-1993) at Northwestern University.  She broke school records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and competed in the 1990 and 1991 NCAA championships. Christine was also a 3-time Big Ten scholar-athlete.  Her sister Katie also swam for Northwestern (2000-2004).  Christine attended graduate school at the University of Louisville and earned a Masters of Education degree in College Student Personnel.  She is currently Associate Athletic Director at the University of Louisville, a sport supervisor for swimming and diving, and she oversees other athletic department programs.  Christine is married to Jim Simatacolos and has three children, Eleni (9), John (7) and Jason (4).  Fun fact – all three kids have the same birthday – May 15.  Christine coaches her kids’ grade school swim team, Holy Trinity Parish School in Louisville, KY.  They have won the last three Catholic School Athletic Association championship meets.
