Bosko Sarenac

South Bend Riley High School Coach, 1957 – 60


Sarenac_BoskoBosko graduated from West Allis Central High School.  There he won seven major athletic letters.  He was captain of the football, basketball, and tennis teams his senior year.  Bosko was also named as Outstanding Athlete of the Year in 1950.  He was a walk-on freshman on Michigan State University Football in 1951 but was drafted into the army after two weeks of practice.  Bosko served in Korea in 1952-53.  He then attended Michigan State University from 1954-57 and was a member of the 1957 Big Ten Championship Swim Team.  Bosko served as the South Bend Riley Swim Coach in 1958, 1959, and 1960.  He was a biology teacher.  The team earned state championship honors in 1958.  During his tenure, Sarenac’s teams produced 7 individual state champions, 5 individual runner-ups and 6 state records.  Two of his relays not only won state titles but also set 2 records.  Bosko then went on to Milwaukee Boys Trade and Technical High School from 1961-94, where he spent 22 years as the head swim coach.  His teams were city champions 18 of the 22 years.  Bosko also coached football and tennis.  Bosko served as a physical education teacher and was department chair from 1980-1994.  He has been married since 1954 and has one daughter.  Bosko currently serves as commander of the Lance P. Sijan VFW Post 12100, in Milwaukee Wisconsin.
